Welcome to Brooklyn in Cape Town. This is where you go to have a skater as your waitron and eat the infamous cheese burger that might give you a heart attack, but that is so good, that taking the risk is a no-brainer.
The old biker shop turned diner was one of the first eateries to grace the trendy Bree Street with its presence and has stayed cool ever since.
Their flat whites are perfectly creamy, their excellent cocktails made to cure any hangover (don’t miss happy hour between 5-7pm) and they are one of few places in town with Kombucha on tap. Other life-changing food on the menu includes the “Clarke’s French Toast”, the “Pulled Pork Sandwich” and of course their meaty, anytime-of-the-day, “Man Breakfast”.
Clarke’s is a real laid-back hang out spot and with its skateboard pit at the back, lushy courtyard in the middle and urban garden deck at the front, it’s easy to spend a few hours here. Also keep an ear out for their occasional party at “The Pit”, they are always a glorious mix of hipster-skaters, all types of rock and good beer.
