Pizza is about love and everybody loves Ferdinando’s pizzas. What started as a living room pop-up restaurant in the quest of selling 10,000 pizzas, has now officially opened up its doors on the upper end of Kloof Street.
On arrival you’ll get a warm welcome from the four-legged, fox-like, bandana-wearing, boss and inspiration behind the name – Ferdinando himself. Any questions or complaints, just talk to him! The aroma of freshly baked pizza becomes more intense for every step down the entrance passage and as you step through the beaded bohemian curtains to the look of excitement on Diego’s, the chef and pizza-master, face, you just know you’re in for a treat.
The vibe is as warm and homely as it gets and if this hasn’t had you smiling already, the scrumptious grissini and vampire-slaying aioli definitely will. Coming to pizza-ordering time, you will for sure be giggling while chatting to the bubbly miss Kimon, the artist and co-owner, and even more so while paging through her creatively drawn menu. Some of the best sellers include “The Grizzly” and “The French Prince”, but being one of the best pizza joints in town, you can’t really go wrong with your choice.
Sharing a space with Blah Blah bar, you can get pretty much get any drink you like and you are also regularly able to watch some of Cape Town’s best musicians playing gigs here. For those warm summer nights, there’s plenty of outdoor space – choose to hang on the patio in the front or hide in the courtyard in the back. Just remember to get here early and bring cash to avoid pizza-envy and unnecessary ATM missions.
